JASON VARGAS

Jason Vargas will take the mound on Wednesday night against Madison Bumgarner in what should be a great pitching match-up. Vargas has easily been the best pitcher in the rotation so far (yes, even better than Danny Duffy), as he’s currently posting a 0.66 ERA. That is impressive.

It’s been great to see Vargas bounce back after having Tommy John surgery last year.

Vargas has a 2-0 record with 14 strikeouts and has only given up one earned run so far this season. His last appearance was in the season finale against Oakland and Vargas went 7.2 innings, only allowing four hits while striking out eight batters.

It’s been great to see Vargas bounce back after having Tommy John surgery last year. In 2014, his first season with the Royals, Vargas had games where he’d be absolutely dominant and other games where he’d give up five runs in the first inning and continue struggling throughout the game.

While that can obviously happen to any pitcher, Vargas scared me a lot that season. I’m glad to see he’s pitching so well in his first two starts, but he surely can’t be this fantastic all season long, right?

If Jason Vargas can keep the San Francisco Giants in check, Royals fans will be thrilled.
