Kansas City Chiefs: Free Agents To Avoid #9

Aldon Smith – Outside Linebacker

The thought of Aldon Smith going to the Kansas City Chiefs would actually be interesting on its surface. Technically, Smith is not a free agent, but it is widely accepted that he will be should he get reinstated. A former star for the Missouri Tigers, Smith would enjoy a bit of a “hometown hero” status with the Chiefs.

However, the problems for Aldon Smith just continue to stack up. The most recent one is a domestic violence accusation that came to light in February. That was just days after Smith had essentially gotten the green light from the NFL for reinstatement in March, barring any further “slip ups”. Clearly he slipped up.

From a need and fit standpoint, the Chiefs could have used Aldon Smith’s talents. While players coming off of such an extended absence are rarely at the same level, Smith is young enough to contribute. With KC having three other pass rushers to mix him in with, Smith could have slowly worked back in. Now, it’s not a sure thing he’ll ever play again.
