Kansas City Royals: Five Players to Watch Vs Los Angeles Angels
BRANDON MOSS
After two positive Royals to watch for, here’s our first negative one. Brandon Moss isn’t hitting anything right now. He’s had ONE hit so far this season and it was a one-run shot against the Astros in the final game of the series.
Moss struggled near the end of last season with the Cardinals, which probably explains why St. Louis didn’t opt to extend him. The Royals snatched him up this offseason to be their designated hitter, but he’s not doing anything.
In the second game against the Athletics, Ned Yost stuck Moss in left field so that Cheslor Cuthbert could be the designated hitter and there was still no spark there for Moss. He also doesn’t have the same arm as Alex Gordon, so the A’s got a few more runs than normal when the ball was belted to left.
On Thursday night’s game, Moss had his second RBI, scoring Salvador Perez on a sacrifice fly, but is still hitting .043 after seven games. That is atrocious for any batter, let alone the guy whose sole job is to hit the damn ball.
I’m not sure how long the Royals will stick with Moss at the DH spot, but if he doesn’t start hitting soon, fans aren’t going to patient with him. He’s the new guy in town and they’ll turn on him quickly.
