Kansas City Chiefs Mock Draft

Todd McShay – 1st Round

player. 124. Cook is perfect for Andy Reid’s system. He is explosive in the open field and a natural pass-catcher out of the backfield. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Cook fall this far, given concerns over his shoulder, character baggage and fumbling issues.. Running Back. Florida State. Dalvin Cook. 27

With the Kansas City Chiefs choosing to part ways with star running back Jamaal Charles, there is a clear hole at running back. Though talented, neither Spencer Ware or Charcandrick West are right for the job. If you’re looking to replace Charles, Dalvin Cook may very well be the best option you could hope to find.

However, I don’t like the thought of taking a running back this early in such a talented class. I see running backs with starting potential who would fit the Chiefs being available into the fifth round. This just strikes me as bad management of resources. That will come even more into focus in just a minute when you see McShay’s second round pick for the Chiefs.

My Pick: Patrick Mahomes – QB – Texas Tech

If the Kansas City Chiefs are going quarterback early, and I don’t know they are, then Patrick Mahomes would be a no-brainer here. Todd McShay has Mahomes going to the Saints with the 32nd pick, using the exact reasoning why the Chiefs should take him at 27. So I’m pulling the trigger here with a popular pick for many KC fans.
