ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay released a joint, two-round, mock draft today. Both noted draft analysts agreed the Kansas City Chiefs will take a quarterback early.
The draft talk around the Kansas City Chiefs is getting very quarterback-centric. ESPN analysts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay released a joint, two-round, mock draft today. While the two draft gurus didn’t agree on the who, they certainly were thinking along the same lines as far as the “what”. Both men predicted the Chiefs would take a quarterback early in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Of course, talking quarterbacks and the Kansas City Chiefs isn’t exactly an overlooked topic this year. Following the poor performance of Alex Smith in the Chiefs playoff loss to the Steelers, and the release of Nick Foles, it’s been a real sore point for many. That’s saying a lot for a fan base that is ready to argue about drafting a quarterback every year.
I’ve had to touch on this subject more than a few times. Most recently, I’ve talked about how Tony Romo‘s retirement may have put the Chiefs into a very tough spot for drafting a quarterback early. In fact, I don’t believe it would be the least bit wrong to think the Chiefs will have to wait until the middle rounds.
However, for the sake of argument, and this article, I will definitely entertain the idea that the Chiefs go quarterback early. With both Mel Kiper and Todd McShay predicting that, it’s only fair that I play along. So who did the ESPN draft gurus send to the Kansas City Chiefs in their latest mock draft?
*Note: My alternate picks in this article are based on who is still available on the respective analyst’s draft board.
