Kansas City Royals Top Players To Watch: #2

Jorge Soler – RF/DH

The Kansas City Royals decided to roll the dice a bit in the offseason. The team traded star closing pitcher Wade Davis to the Chicago Cubs for young power hitter Jorge Soler. Soler has demonstrated a ton of power in his early career. However, he has also struggled with inconsistency and injury. The Royals are hoping he can break through both of those hurdles this year.

The concerns with Jorge Soler in Chicago are the same as they are here. Is this a player who can break out? Or did Dayton Moore get the short end of the stick? The Kansas City Royals need some real power in the heart of their lineup. Soler definitely has power, but he needs to become much more consistent and reliable.

I liked this trade when it was made because all signs pointed to Wade Davis leaving after this year anyways. On top of that, Davis has had some major arm issues recently, so he had a declining market. Soler, on the other hand, is (hopefully) an ascending player. If he can show some consistency in Kansas City, this offense could be very dangerous.
