Big 12 Basketball: Selection Sunday Bracket Breakdown
By trevb
Selection Sunday has come and gone and we have our field of 68 teams ready to square off, beginning on Tuesday. Big 12 basketball saw six teams selected on Sunday to represent the conference. How deep will each team go?
If it was not apparent during the conference season then it should be pretty clear now: the Big 12 is a very deep conference. Sixty percent of the conference got selected to the field of 68, which is pretty good attendance.
Among those selected are the Kansas Jayhawks, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Iowa State Cyclones, the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Baylor Bears, and the Kansas State Wildcats.
Many of these teams have great potential in the tournament. One could say that about half of these teams have a good chance of going to Phoenix. Maybe one of them could even win it all this year.
Even though tournament play has yet to prove what these teams can provide down the stretch of a tournament run; you can infer by how they handled the regular season. With March Madness, however, unpredictability is the name of the game.
After all, March Madness is about upsets and surprises. So, with the six teams that made the NCAA Tournament how far can they really go? Well, there is a maximum and minimum for every team.
One team could go all the way yet be projected to lose in the Sweet Sixteen. One team could be projected to win the whole thing yet lose in the First Round. It is what makes March so special, but eventually the real teams show up in Phoenix to decide who takes home the trophy.
Every team has potential just like all these teams from the Big 12 that were selected on Sunday. Sometimes the Big 12 disappoints, but other times it shines in the tournament.
Let’s look at how deep each Big 12 team can go in the NCAA Tournament.
