KU football hasn’t seen much success recently, but they still send players to the NFL via the draft. In 2015, Kansas saw three of its players hear their name called on draft day. Who have been the last ten to enter the NFL as draft picks?

With the 2017 NFL Draft arriving in over a month, draft talk is everywhere. Kansas and “NFL Draft” aren’t typically words you hear listed in a sentence together, but the Jayhawks have seen some of their top players drafted and given the chance to live out their NFL dreams.

While no one was drafted from Kansas in last year’s NFL Draft, they have sent some great players to the big leagues. Recently, the Jayhawks have seen the likes of Aqib Talib (2008) and Darrell Stuckey (2010) land with teams in the draft and go on to have nice careers.

I thought with the draft coming up, it’d be fun to go back and look at the last ten Jayhawks to hear their name called at the big event. We’ll start with the most recent and work our way back.

DEXTER MCDONALD (Seventh-Round Pick, 242nd Overall in 2015 NFL Draft)

In the final round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders took a chance on Kansas cornerback Dexter McDonald. McDonald spent his entire college career in Lawrence and has actually done okay for himself in the pros so far.

In two seasons with the Raiders, McDonald has played in 12 total games (zero starts) and has notched four tackles.

Being a seventh round pick means the odds are stacked against a player to make a true impact in the NFL, but McDonald is doing fine as an NFL cornerback. Perhaps he can make more of a name for himself in year three.
