Rumors have been slow in surfacing for Kansas City Chiefs pending free agent Dontari Poe.

The star defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs is reportedly finding little interest on the open market early on. However, the Washington Redskins have emerged as a potential suitor for his talents, according to Jason La Canfora.

After the Chiefs had decided against using the Franchise Tag on Dontari Poe, it was largely assumed that he would leave in Free Agency. The reported $10 million per year that Poe is looking for is simply more than KC can afford to offer him. However, the Redskins have a more tenable salary cap situation that allows them to be in play.

Of course, any rumors involving Washington should be taken with a grain of salt. There is reported discord in the team’s front office that extends from the coach to the GM to the team president to the owner. So there is no telling exactly who is making these decisions, or even if the rumors have any weight.

What we do know though is that the Redskins have shown a penchant for pursuing big name free agents in the past. That means the rumors involving Dontari Poe have at least a certain amount of credibility. If so, they are the first team that we have heard to have any interest in Poe.

If the market for Dontari Poe doesn’t pick up, there may be a chance that he returns to Kansas City for another season. There have been rumblings that he is willing to play on a one-year deal to show his value again.

If so, the Chiefs may be able to get him at a much more reasonable price tag.
The Kansas City Chiefs are in a strong position when it comes to the current roster.

The Chiefs don’t have a lot of players with expiring contracts. That means the bulk of a 12-4 roster should be back in KC for the 2017 season which bodes well for their chances at continued success.
