Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com is reporting that Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore has exchanged texts with Eric Hosmer’s agent Scott Boras.
There is no doubt that when it comes to Kansas City Royals rumors for this year, Eric Hosmer will be the top focus. The Royals young star is turning into a solid player, and is due for a new contract very soon. So hearing that the KC front office is getting things going is a good sign for the fan base.
Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com is now reporting that Royals GM Dayton Moore has exchanged some texts with Eric Hosmer’s agent. Heyman is an insider for the MLB network and formerly of CBS Sports, so we can take this seriously. That’s excellent news for Royals fans. If Moore and Scott Boras are trading texts about Hosmer, that means contract talks are at least happening.
In all likelihood, Eric Hosmer is going to get a very big contract. Just how much he gets could be determined by his 2017 season. However, we do know that the Royals organization thinks very highly of the young first baseman. That means they are probably willing to pay a sizable deal to Hosmer to keep him in Kansas City.

All in all though, the details on any potential deal are pretty scarce. Obviously Eric Hosmer’s agent will be pushing for as big a deal as possible. How much the Royals are willing to counter with is unknown. What we do know is that Hosmer is prepared to test Free Agency in 2018 if a deal is not done by Opening Day.

The pressure is on Dayton Moore to make a deal happen. Unfortunately, the Kansas City Royals are not a rich team and will struggle to make big contracts work. The Royals have been willing to spend in recent years, but there is a limit to that. Hopefully Moore can make something work for both the team and for Eric Hosmer.
