The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t a team known for drafting quarterbacks early on in the draft. The last time they took a quarterback in round one was in 1983 and the last time they selected one in the first three rounds was in 2006.

Chiefs Kingdom becomes frustrated at times with their favorite team, as they just seem destined to always ignore drafting at the quarterback position early on in the draft.

While teams like the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets have seemingly struggled to find a prominent signal caller, at least they’re taking chances on guys in the early rounds. You’ll never know what a prospect can become if you don’t take a chance on him.

Hopefully this year will see the Chiefs go after a quarterback early on, but history isn’t in the team’s favor. I thought it’d be fun to take a trip down memory lane and look back at the last ten quarterbacks this team has drafted.

We’ll start with the most recent, who only spent a few months in a Chiefs uniform.

KEVIN HOGAN – Fifth Round Pick (162nd Overall) in 2016 NFL Draft

I was actually weirdly excited for this pick, mainly because Kevin Hogan was a name I was familiar with and I had watched him play at Stanford frequently during his long college career.

With Hogan joining the likes of Alex Smith, Tyler Bray, and Aaron Murray, it seemed evident that he’d at least earn the third-string job. Once the Chiefs signed Nick Foles, however, Hogan’s future with the Chiefs was up in the air and he was let go after the final preseason game.

Hogan then was scooped up by the Cleveland Browns and actually played in four games for them, throwing for 104 yards and two picks. His running game is what made people notice him, as he had more rushing yards than passing yards at 105. Hogan also had a rushing touchdown.

Kevin Hogan was never going to be “the man” here in Kansas City, but seeing him get playing time elsewhere started to worry Chiefs fans. What if he actually became something for the Browns?
