The Journey to 13 Straight

Title Number 11: 2014-2015 Season

KU basketball again would lose a lot of standouts from the previous season to graduation and the NBA Draft.

Losing Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Jamari Traylor, Tarik Black, Naadir Tharpe, and Conner Frankamp. Kansas would gain freshman Kelly Oubre, freshman Cliff Alexander, freshman Devonte’ Graham, junior Hunter Mickelson, and freshman Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk.

Starting out the season with a preseason ranking in fifth place, Kansas would start out the season with a crushing loss to number one ranked Kentucky by over 30 points. Including Kentucky, the Jayhawks would play 13 games against AP top 25 teams.

KU would make an impressive 9-4 record against the Top 25. Entering the Big 12 Tournament, Kansas would face TCU in the first round and win by five points. They would win the second round as well beating 16th ranked Baylor, and then losing in the championship to 13th ranked Iowa State.

On Selection Sunday, Kansas would be selected as a number two seed in the Midwest region. The Jayhawks would easily get past the first round with win over New Mexico State and then fall in the second round for a second time against Wichita State in a showdown between the studs of the state of Kansas.
