The Journey to Thirteen Straight

Title Number Ten: 2013-2014 Season

Kansas would see a team as loaded as the roster of the 2009-2010 season, and ironically it would end the same way in the postseason.

Incoming freshman would be Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Wayne Selden Jr., Landen Lucas, Brannen Greene, Conner Frankamp, and the bulldog himself Frank Mason III. Along with these touted freshman was senior transfer Tarik Black.

Kansas would start out ranked number five in the preseason poll. The Jayhawks would play ten games against the AP Top 25 and go 7-3 in those games. With crucial early season wins against fourth ranked Duke in the Champions Classic, and mid season wins against eighth ranked Iowa State, and ninth ranked Oklahoma State.

Even with the loaded roster Kansas would struggle all season, especially when Joel Embiid was unavailable due to injury for the postseason. In the Big 12 Tournament, Kansas would get past the first round against Oklahoma State by seven in overtime, then they would lose to eventual tournament champion Iowa State.

Being selected as a number two seed, the struggles continued. The Jayhawks escaped the first round with an 11 point win over fifteen seeded Eastern Kentucky, but their season would end in the second round against Stanford with a three point loss.
