The Journey to 13 Straight

Title Number Nine: 2012-2013 Season, title shared with Kansas State

This season is around the time when the freshman started taking over college basketball games.

The Jayhawks would keep a pretty similar structure to the previous season, but they would add freshman standout Ben McLemore, freshman Jamari Traylor, Mr. Consistency Perry Ellis, and the sons of the greats: freshman Evan Manning and freshman Tyler Self.

During this season, the Jayhawks would be ranked seventh in the preseason poll. They would play games against five teams from the AP Top 25 poll, securing wins against seventh ranked Ohio State, Kansas State twice when they were ranked 11th and tenth respectively, and 14th ranked Oklahoma State by one point in double overtime.

Heading into the Big 12 Tournament, the Jayhawks would handily win another Big 12 Tournament championship. Kansas would beat Texas Tech, Iowa State, and 12th ranked Kansas State by large margins.

On Selection Sunday, Kansas would be slotted in as a number one seed in the South region. They would defeat 16-seeded Western Kentucky, eighth-seeded North Carolina, then lose in the Sweet Sixteen to Michigan with a stellar performance from Trey Burke in overtime by two points.
