Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Tackle Options

Brandon Williams – Baltimore Ravens

If the Kansas City Chiefs are in a position to have to replace Dontari Poe, there is nothing wrong considering the best option out there. That would be Brandon Williams of the Baltimore Ravens. Williams is the best potential free agent 3-4 defensive tackle this offseason. Yes, I am including Dontari Poe on that list.

However, Brandon Williams is likely to cost much less in Free Agency that Dontari Poe. It is one of those weird situations where position comes into play. Poe is likely going to end up with a 4-3 team, because that is where the money is for defensive tackles. Meanwhile, Williams looks to strictly be considered as a 3-4 tackle and make significantly less.

Brandon Williams has excelled for the Baltimore Ravens during his time there. He is an ideal block eater who also has the chops to get into the backfield. That is exactly what the Chiefs need. Adding Williams to the mix would keep the inside linebackers clean so they can make the plays. That is exactly how Bob Sutton’s defense is designed to work.

Unfortunately, Kansas City doesn’t show much interest in signing high profile free agents. Sure, they have made moves on guys like Jeremy Maclin and Mitchell Schwartz, but not much else. John Dorsey comes from the Ron Wolf school of personnel management, and that means staying away form big name free agents when possible. So I’m saying the probability of this move is very low.
