Sporting KC stars Benny Feilhaber and Graham Zusi made their presence known for the US Men’s National Team in their friendly match with Jamaica.

One of the points of pride for Sporting KC is their impact with the US Men’s National Team (USMNT). The Kansas City club has strong ties to the USMNT with several players pulling double duty. That paid off for the “American Outlaws” last night as both Benny Feilhaber and Graham Zusi played major roles in a victory.

Graham Zusi was the first to make his impact for the team as he led the starters on the field in the captain’s role. That, in and of itself, is a huge honor and responsibility for any player. The fact that it went to a member of Sporting KC should be a feather in the cap for all Kansas City fans. As for his performance on the field, the USMNT pitched a shutout, which pretty much speaks for itself.

However, it was Benny Feilhaber who made his presence truly felt for the National Team. In the 59th minute of the match, Feilhaber set up a goal for Jordan Morris. That would be the only score of the night, and the first goal for the USMNT since the Copa America quarter-finals in June. On top of the assist, Feilhaber had a very solid night working the middle of the field.

Overall, it wasn’t a great game for the US team. However, it was a step forward and Sporting KC played a pretty big role in that. At the very least, that’s a somewhat good sign for Kansas City soccer moving forward. Hopefully both Sporting KC and the USMNT can improve on their 2016 campaigns.
