Mike Borgonzi

It is almost always a good sign for a personnel man when they last longer than their GM. That is the case for Mike Borgonzi who originally joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009. Despite the house cleaning that came during and after the 2013 season, Borgonzi has managed to hang around. That means that John Dorsey has likely come to appreciate the input he has to offer.

Mike Borgonzi has risen through the ranks with the Chiefs. He began his career in KC as the College Scouting Administrator before being promoted to Manager of Football Operations. Under John Dorsey, Borgonzi has worked in the Pro Personnel department. That means Mike Borgonzi has run the gamut in terms of responsibilities in the front office.

With his most recent assignments coming in the Pro Personnel department, you can attribute some of those key veteran signing to Mike Borgonzi’s work. Often, John Dorsey gets credit for “leaving no stone unturned” when looking for talent. However, it has been guys like Borgonzi who are actually turning the stones over.

One truly interesting thing about Mike Borgonzi is that by having served in two different regimes, he is familiar with multiple scouting principles. Borgonzi is well-versed in both the Bill Belichick and Ron Wolf philosophies. That’s not too shabby a background to be relying on.
