Kansas City Chiefs: A Guide to Super Bowl LI for Chiefs Fans
By Jesse Holt
Many sports fans must make a difficult choice each year at Super Bowl time. With 48 years since their last Super Bowl berth, Kansas City Chiefs fans are no stranger to making this choice.
What is that choice you may ask? Simply, who to root for in the Super Bowl. This guide is designed to look at the three options that Chiefs fans have: the New England Patriots, the Atlanta Falcons, or #NotMySuperBowl. Which category do you fall into?
New England Patriots
Why Chiefs fans should support the Patriots
There are multiple reasons that may drive a KC Chiefs fan to do the nigh-unthinkable and root for the Patriots on February 5th. The most prominent is due to conference loyalty.
Chiefs fans may simply like to root for the AFC Champion representative.
Being able to say that your team plays in the best conference in the NFL provides some serious bragging rights. It also helps that the Patriots were a founding member of the AFL along with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The other options are less likely.
Chiefs fans may want to root for history as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick compete for their fifth Super Bowl trophy together. Or they simply may want to root for the team that defeated the Steelers (who ousted the Chiefs in the Divisional round if you’ve forgotten).
Also, come on. It’d be really funny to see Roger Goodell have to hand over the Lombardi Trophy to Brady after suspending him for four games this season.
