The tragic news of Yordano Ventura’s death still hasn’t sunken in yet and it may never sink in. He was only 25 years old and had a lot more chapters of his story to be told. The Kansas City Royals lost a brother.

Heartbroken

Yordano Ventura passed away Sunday morning after a tragic car accident in his home country of the Dominican Republic.

People who aren’t sports fans may not understand why myself and the rest of the baseball world are so upset about this. After all, I had only met Yordano once in passing while watching batting practice on the field. His smile was infectious and you could just tell how much he enjoyed life, even in fleeting moments.

His death comes far too soon after the death of another young pitcher Jose Fernandez. It’s always tough to process things like this when they happen because they are so unexpected.

When you think about a young kid so full of life and joy and then they’re gone in an instant, it really puts life into perspective. Going to the memorial at Kauffman Stadium was bittersweet. It filled my heart to see the many things that people brought to honor his memory and angry at the same time because he should still be here.
