MOST DISAPPOINTING CHIEFS IN 2016 – NUMBER 8: CHRIS CONLEY

Before the 2016 season began, I predicted that Chris Conley was going to have a breakout season! No one else really seemed to be on my boat though, and they were right. Conley was a bust in 2016.

Conley was targeted 69 times this past season while Jeremy Maclin had 76 targets in four less games.

While he had more receptions for way more yards than he did during his rookie campaign, Conley failed to find the end zone in year two and that’s simply unacceptable for a guy who’s supposed to be the number two receiver on the depth chart.

The reason why I only had Conley as the eighth most disappointing player is that he made some insane catches late in the season. There was one crazy catch that he had against Oakland at Arrowhead that gave the Chiefs a crucial first down and he had another big one in the playoff game versus the Steelers.

I do think that Conley could benefit from a different quarterback, as it appears that Alex Smith just doesn’t target him all that often. Conley was targeted 69 times this past season while Jeremy Maclin had 76 targets in four less games.

I see potential in Chris Conley. He makes great catches down the field, but he also struggles with drops. Hopefully he can transform into a true number-two receiver for the 2017 season, but until then… He’s suffered another disappointing season in Kansas City.
