MOST DISAPPOINTING CHIEFS IN 2016 – NUMBER 2: SPENCER WARE

After becoming the bulldozing running back that he was in 2015, Spencer Ware was a huge disappointment in 2016. He started 14 games and was off to a good start for the Chiefs, especially in the receiving game.

The Chiefs went from having one of the best running back situations in football to having one of the worst.

It slowly, but surely went down hill for Ware though. He ended 2016 with 214 carries for 921 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 33 passes for 447 yards and two scores.

It’s hard to be a threat in the playoffs when the running backs aren’t doing work, and Ware just couldn’t get anything going. His final five starts saw him rush for 29 yards (vs Atlanta), 56 yards (vs Oakland), 69 yards (vs Tennessee), 62 yards (vs Denver), and 35 yards (vs Pittsburgh).

Even after having two weeks off before facing the Steelers (he wasn’t active for the regular season finale), Ware couldn’t do anything against the Steelers.

The Chiefs went from having one of the best running back situations in football to having one of the worst. This will likely lead to them drafting a running back early on in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Spencer Ware will probably be the starter again next season even if the Chiefs do draft someone to help out at the position. Maybe he’ll have a bounce back year in 2017.
