Kansas City Chiefs: Way Too Early 2017 NFL Mock Draft
ROUND 5 – PICK 179: LORENZO JEROME, S (SAINT FRANCIS (PA))
The safety position is one that could end up being a much bigger need for the KC Chiefs. What’s pending is the future of Eric Berry in Kansas City. If he stays, whether it be signing a long-term contract or being slapped with the franchise tag again, then safety won’t be a big need.
Lorenzo Jerome could end up being an impact player for the KC Chiefs and this could end up being a steal for them in the 2017 NFL Draft.
If, however, the Chiefs don’t franchise tag Berry and he signs with another team, safety is a huge need. For the time being though, I went ahead and predicted that Berry will sign a long-term deal with the team because I think he showed he deserves one this past season.
With all of that said, the Chiefs select a safety in the fifth round and it’s Lorenzo Jerome out of Saint Francis.
While his school isn’t one known for producing NFL prospects, Jerome was a big reason for why Saint Francis made it into the FCS Playoffs for the first time ever. He’s an incredibly versatile guy, playing free safety and returning kicks and punts.
According to Brian McLaughlin of HERO Sports, Jerome has caught the eyes of NFL scouts and could very well be as high as a fourth-round draft pick. That’d be huge considering his school isn’t exactly what you’d consider to be a juggernaut in college football.
Regardless, Lorenzo Jerome could end up being an impact player for the KC Chiefs and this could end up being a steal for them in the 2017 NFL Draft.
