ROUND 2 – PICK 59: PATRICK MAHOMES, QB (TEXAS TECH)

Awwwww yeeeeaaaaahhhh! The moment Chiefs fans have been waiting for… A quarterback drafted before the fifth round!

It comes in the second round in this particular mock draft and it’s Patrick Mahomes out of Texas Tech. Mahomes put up freak numbers with the Red Raiders including a game in which he threw for 734 yards and five touchdowns. Those numbers are not a joke, folks.

Mahomes has a great arm and has proven he possesses good accuracy down the field.

In just three seasons at Texas Tech, Mahomes tossed for 11,252 yards, 93 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. That is insane.

Now a lot of this is the system that Texas Tech runs, but it’s hard to scoff at those type of numbers, especially with a team like the Chiefs who are lacking the “big play” quarterback.

Mahomes would be the perfect type of quarterback to add to Kansas City because he needs some fine tuning before being thrown to the wolves. Give him a year to sit and learn behind Alex Smith and then see what he can do in 2018 when Smith’s time as a Chief will likely come to an end.

Mahomes has a great arm and has proven he possesses good accuracy down the field. The biggest question with the Red Raider quarterback is if his college numbers are an indication of who he is or who the Texas Tech offense is. Can he put up good numbers in the pros? Hopefully he does as a member of the Chiefs.
