ROUND 6 – PICK 219: D.J. JONES, DT (OLE MISS)

Apparently the KC Chiefs like drafting guys who either go by D.J. or who have the initials D.J. They add yet another one when they draft D.J. Jones out of Ole Miss in the sixth round.

The Chiefs’ defensive line struggled with injuries all season long with Allen Bailey, Jaye Howard, and Dontari Poe all going down or being banged up at some point.

By the time the later rounds arrive, you’re obviously hoping the picks can make it onto the 53-man roster and compete for a starting spot, but most of the time, they’re going to be backups or on the practice squad. Last year, however, we saw a lot of young guys get their shot due to injuries.

D.J. Jones, a defensive tackle who spent the last two seasons with Ole Miss, appeared in every game in 2015 and registered 40 tackles (five and a half of those were for loss), all of this according to Ole Miss’ official website.

At the end of the day, it never hurts to draft for depth and doing so saved the Chiefs the past two years and kept them in contention. This pick could be yet another example of that.
