Ugly: Run Defense

Last but not least, we have the run defense. All I really need to say here is Le’Veon Bell and people will be like, “Yeah, you have a point.”, but I’m here to write about the game so I’ll give you the rundown.

Bell was able to churn out 101 yards in the first half alone and rushed for 170 on the night off of 30 carries. While the Chiefs kept Bell out of the end zone, they couldn’t stop him from gashing through their defensive line. That ended up being the key factor in this game.

Derrick Johnson going down in week 14 was what really dropped this run defense down to the bottom of the league, though they were bad before then. It’s hard to believe the Chiefs defense giving up 170 yards on the ground to a running back though had Johnson been in the game.

The last few seasons have been brutal for the Chiefs when it comes to stopping the run and with some good running backs on the schedule for next year (Ezekiel Elliott, anyone?), this is an area that needs to be addressed this offseason.
