New England Patriots (14-2) (One-Seed)

If the Kansas City Chiefs want to make it to the Super Bowl, they’ll have to go through Foxborough to get there. The road to the Super Bowl goes through the New England Patriots, as they earned the one-seed in the AFC despite Tom Brady missing the first four games of the season due to a suspension.

Brady is the Patriots, there’s no doubt about that and Bill Belichick is easily the best head coach in the NFL and knows how to beat teams. They’re the best coach-quarterback combo in the entire NFL and probably of all-time.

The Chiefs are ready to go to the Super Bowl, but they have to prove that they can beat the Patriots on the road and in an intense atmosphere.

Belichick tends to remove the best player on the opposing team, which is why I think the Chiefs could have a chance in this game. There is no “best player” on the KC Chiefs roster, but a whole bunch of playmakers, as my co-editor Ben Almquist mentioned in his recent playoff piece.

"When you have to be concerned about a team’s ability to score on any given play, you have a lot of problems. That’s why the Chiefs are dangerous. There is no situation in which Kansas City isn’t a threat to put some points on the board. That instantly puts an opponent on their heels."

Another storyline to this game is that the Chiefs’ 2015 season ended in Foxborough just a year ago. Losing that game, a game in which the Chiefs very well could have won, was what sparked this incredible run in 2016.

There is no “best player” on the KC Chiefs roster, but a whole bunch of playmakers.

There is a chance, of course, that the Chiefs could host the AFC Championship Game, but it’s not something to bank on. That’d mean the Dolphins, Raiders, or Texans beat New England on their home turf in the divisional round, and I really don’t see that happening.

The only teams that have a shot at beating the Patriots this postseason are the Chiefs and the Steelers. Pittsburgh will only have a chance if they beat Kansas City though, which is probably why New England will be rooting for the Chiefs to win that game.

There’s a good chance that we’re looking at a Chiefs/Patriots AFC Championship Game. With that being the first chance the Chiefs have had to go to the Super Bowl since 1994, I’d say that’ll be a pretty damn important game for Chiefs Kingdom.
