Kansas City Chiefs Should Do Right By Jamaal Charles

It’s More Than Just Business
Every time I bring up the Kansas City Chiefs options with Jamaal Charles, I get the same answer: “It’s a business”. To be honest, this drives me absolutely nuts. This is Jamaal Charles…the man who has helped carry this franchise through both good and bad. He’s not some diva wide receiver asking for a 5 year $56 million deal.
This is a guy who has been a Chief from day one. He has never been a problem for Kansas City. He’s never complained about his work load. He’s never held out over a contract dispute. He’s never been a problem off the field. All he has done is come in and been one of the most effective running backs in NFL history.
As for the “it’s a business” crowd out there, I wonder if you would apply that logic to your own business? If your boss came in and reduced your salary dramatically because you were old, would that be ok with you? I mean, it’s just business right? No, you would be in the HR office or on the phone with a union/legal rep so fast it would make your Assistant to the Regional Manager’s head spin. Let’s not be hypocritical about someone else’s life.
On top of that, there can be some very real repercussions for an NFL team treating a star/popular player poorly. Namely the fact the Chiefs are in major negotiations with two other star players. Money talks…but so does perception. Eric Berry and Dontari Poe will have a lot of offers on the table. Don’t think for a second that they won’t walk away if they don’t like how KC does business.
