Chris Ballard: Director of Player Personnel

Job Search: General Manager

For the past several years, no personnel man has gotten more hype than Kansas City Chiefs Director of Player Personnel, Chris Ballard. He has been said to have been on nearly every single “short list” for general manager positions over the past three seasons. However, nobody has pulled the trigger on him yet.

There is no denying that the Kansas City Chiefs have done an amazing job of constructing a roster. This is a deep football team that has been able to overcome a number of very big injuries. Each year under this current regime, the team has improved. Ballard has played a key role in that.

So why hasn’t he already gotten a job? That seems to be the million dollar question. Nobody has an answer, even though most pundits consider him the top candidate out there. However, at some point you have to figure that an owner is going to give him his shot to prove his worth. There is only one opening right now in the NFL, so the Chiefs may hold onto their guy for one more season.
