WISHFUL THINKING – KYLE ZIMMER

Laugh all you want, but we all can dream, right? Fans have been dreaming of Kyle Zimmer taking the mound for the Royals since they drafted him in the first round in the 2012 MLB Draft.

The potential is there for Zimmer, but he’s shown no sign of being able to stay healthy and on track during his short career.

Zimmer’s issue has always been that he can never stay healthy. In his five seasons in the minor leagues, Zimmer has yet to pitch a full season and has let the fan base down time and time again.

While I’m not going to hold my breath on Kyle Zimmer being ready to pitch for the Kansas City Royals, it’s still a nice thought. He’d prove that this team can develop starting pitchers and he’d fill a need, which is a fifth starter.

Kyle Zimmer was pitching well in 2016 before re-injuring himself. He only pitched in three games, but he managed a 1.59ERA in those three starts, only allowing two runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

The potential is there for Zimmer, but he’s shown no sign of being able to stay healthy and on track during his short career. He’s still young though, so if the kid can get it together, he could do great things for this club.

Here’s to that being in 2017!
