Kansas State Wildcats  (11-1) – Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017

The Sunflower State Showdown will take place a little earlier than usual this season, but it’s always an anticipated match-up. Anytime you get to square off against an opponent in the same state as you, it’s always going to be a good time.

This game comes at home where the Jayhawks have not lost to the Wildcats since the 2006 season.

Bruce Weber has led his team to a good record, but against weak competition and that could be K-State’s downfall. The Wildcats come in ranked 66th in RPI, according to ESPN.

The Wildcats got off to a fast start last year going 12-3 during the non-conference season, but they struggled mightily when it came to conference opponents. K-State basketball went just 5-13 against the Big 12 last season and it was painful to watch.

This game comes at home where the Jayhawks have not lost to the Wildcats since the 2006 season. As loaded as KU basketball is this year, chalk this up as another win for the good guys (well, depending on where you live in Kansas).

I’ll eat my words if Kansas State doesn’t implode during conference season once again, but I’m not banking on having to do that. Bruce Weber has had a nice start to his season in 2016, but if his Wildcats struggle during Big 12 play again, he might be leaving Manhattan for good.

Prediction: KU basketball wins 80-62
