Best Tigers to Play in the NFL – Number 8: Otis Smith

NFL Defensive Back from 1991-2003

The eighth best Missouri Tiger to play in the pros is Otis Smith, who spent 13 seasons in the league as a pretty good defensive back. Smith jumped around a bit, playing for the Eagles, Jets, Patriots, and Lions.

Smith was never a super flashy player, but he was apart of the Super Bowl winning Patriots team in 2001. Smith had an interception in the playoffs that season and took it for 30 yards.

That’s what made Smith a threat in the secondary was his ability to make quarterbacks pay with interceptions. He picked off 29 passes during his career and returned seven of them for touchdowns.

Smith also had 442 tackles and five and a half sacks during his long career and definitely deserves a spot on this list. Being in the NFL for several years is difficult, but Smith managed to do so and play good football during that time.

He’s eighth on this list.
