Best Tigers to Play in the NFL – Number 2: Roger Wehrli

NFL Defensive Back from 1969-1982

Number two on this list is Roger Wehrli, who was a first round pick (19th overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1969. He spent his entire career in St. Louis, likely because it was in the same state where he attended college, but also because he was really freaking good in the NFL.

The former Tiger was never a Super Bowl champion, but he was elected to seven Pro Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.

Wehrli’s speed is what he’s most remembered for and he showcased that plenty in the pros. Along with his defensive duties, Wehrli field punt and kickoff returns and in one season averaged 10.2 yards per return.Kellen

During his 14-year career, Wehrli had 40 interceptions and 22 recovered fumbles in 193 games. He returned two of those interceptions for touchdowns and had over 300 yards off of interception returns.

The former Tiger was never a Super Bowl champion, but he was elected to seven Pro Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007. Wehrli truly was one of the better defensive players that the NFL has seen and arguably THE best to ever play at Missouri.

So just who IS better than Roger Wehrli? We’re about to find out.
