It had been nearly 20 years since the Kansas City Chiefs were truly relevant in the NFL. However, Andy Reid has quickly turned around a down and out franchise.

The Kansas City Chiefs are returning the playoffs this year. This will be the first time the Chiefs have made back to back postseason appearances since the Marty Schottenheimer era. That’s not the only “first” that has come under Andy Reid’s tenure in Kansas City. The veteran and respected head coach has done a lot to revive this franchise.

In fact, with Andy Reid calling the shots the Kansas City Chiefs are the most relevant they have been since the “Martyball” era. Back then, the Chiefs were a perennial playoff team and often mentioned in the Super Bowl conversation. That is where Reid has brought the team back to. KC is once again in the championship conversation.

How Andy Reid got the team here is impressive. It has included a lot of hard work by General Manager John Dorsey, Reid’s long-time friend and hand picked front office guy. It has come on the back of a quarterback that many had called (and still call) a total bust. It has ridden on a wave of impressive defensive performances that have run the spectrum in styles.

If you’re curious as to why the Kansas City Chiefs are now an impressive team that can hang with the best in the league, look no further than Andy Reid. He has been the lone driving force behind this team and its return to the upper tier of NFL franchises.
