Protecting Alex Smith

One of the few areas the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled in this season is protecting Alex Smith. It’s not that the Chiefs offensive line is playing bad, but rather they have been inconsistent. The KC offensive line needs to find a level of consistency where they are all playing at a decent level. That will be tough this week against a strong Titans pass rush.

The biggest threat from the Titans comes from the combo of Brian Orakpo and Derrick Morgan who have combined for 19 sacks. That is a talented combo of pass rushers, and they are complimented by defensive lineman Jurrell Casey. That is a very dangerous group for the Chiefs to face this week, though Casey may be somewhat limited.

For the Chiefs, the biggest question comes at the guard positions. Both Zach Fulton and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif have struggled off and on this year. The Chiefs will need them both to step up this week. If Alex Smith can get time to see the field, he can exploit the weak Tennessee secondary.
