Can The Chiefs Run Defense Hold Up?

Playing off of who starts at inside linebacker is how well the Kansas City Chiefs run defense holds up this week. The Chiefs have struggled to stop the run this year. That has been further complicated by injuries to Jaye Howard, Allen Bailey, Josh Mauga, Justin March, and now Derrick Johnson.

The run defense will be put to the test this week against DeMarco Murray and the Titans. Tennessee is one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL, and Murray is already over 1000 yards on the year. This is not the ideal time to be testing a new inside linebacker, but that is the hand that has been dealt.

Fortunately, the Titans outside passing game isn’t very impressive. That means the Chiefs should be able to stack the box with eight players to focus on the run. Kansas City does have the advantage of the versatile Eric Berry who can help step in. If the Chiefs can stop the run early in the game, they should win this game handily.
