Best Kansas City Royals during the dark years: 12. Mark Gubicza
ROYALS STARTING PITCHER FROM 1984-1996
Mark Gubicza is an interesting name on this list. He might not have had the best stats during his tenure with the Kansas City Royals, but the guy was with this team for over a decade.
Now, of course, Gubicza was with the Royals when they won the World Series in 1985, but he spent all but one year of his career with Kansas City and spent two seasons with them during the dark years.
In 1995, Gubicza started 33 games and pitched in 213.1 innings. He ended the season with a record of 12-14 and a 3.75 ERA.
The next season, his last as a Royal, his ERA was much higher (5.13) and he only won four games, but the team was pretty bad then. His 12 losses that season weren’t even the most in his career.
Gubicza spent his final season in the majors with Anaheim and then called it a career after that. He was one of the longest-tenured Royals and that alone could earn him a spot on this list.
