It has been a while since fans of the Kansas City Chiefs have seen the team attack down the field like they did Thursday night. The Chiefs had multiple plays that went for more than 25 yards, and it came almost entirely through the air. Alex Smith was on the money with his deep throws and Kansas City ripped off chunks of yards throughout the game.

Of course, the play that stands out is the 36 yard strike that Alex Smith threw to Tyreek Hill for a touchdown. However, for me, it was the deep ball Smith threw to Chris Conley with 11:20 left in the first quarter that was the best. That play loosened up the Raiders defense early and allowed the Chiefs offense to attack in a variety of ways all day.

Of all the games I went back and watched, this is the one that has me convinced that the Chiefs are keeping their offensive capabilities close to the vest. In this game, Alex Smith attacked downfield on three different throws. Each one was perfectly on the money. The fact that the Chiefs could successfully call these plays at different points in the game shows the offense has more than what we’ve been seeing.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense looks to be more dangerous than what the stat sheets are telling us.  The Chiefs are showing the willingness and ability to attack downfield and be aggressive. However, we are also seeing that KC will jump out on top of their opponent and then get conservative to just protect their lead. That tells me this offense will be an underrated asset in the playoffs.
