Kansas City Chiefs: Alex Smith Has Been Dialing It Up
By Ben Almquist
Denver Broncos
This is the week that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith should have caught your eye. The Denver Broncos are considered one of the best defenses in the NFL. The stats certainly seem to back that up. However, Smith didn’t seem the least bit affected by what other people think of that defense. He simply went out there and controlled the game.
A skeptic would probably point out some things. The Chiefs didn’t jump out on top of the Broncos. The first nine points didn’t come from the offense. That would be correct. It’s also what makes Alex Smith’s performance in this game so impressive. All Alex Smith did is come back and take the lead, tie the game, or win the game every time the Broncos got an advantage.
This includes a phenomenal drive at the end of regulation in which Alex Smith threw for 71 yards and touchdown…and a two point conversion…to tie the game. That against the best pass defense in the NFL. I don’t care who you are, that is impressive. The fact that the Chiefs and Smith could dial that up in that situation shows us that this offense has some cards they don’t show.
