Ugly:  Derrick Johnson Injury

I think I speak for all KC Chiefs fans when we saw Derrick Johnson go to the ground on a non-contact play and throw his helmet off. We were all devastated.

Unfortunately, we could have seen Derrick Johnson’s last play in a Kansas City Chiefs jersey.

My heart sank seeing Johnson on the ground in that moment because we’ve seen it before, and sadly… I don’t think this time is going to be as happy of an ending for the longest tenured Chief.

DJ ruptured his Achilles against the Raiders, which isn’t the first time this has happened to the former first round pick. Johnson had the same injury in the season opener in the 2014 season and we all saw how he ended up coming back better than ever.

Unfortunately, we could have seen Derrick Johnson’s last play in a Kansas City Chiefs jersey. I’m no doctor, but coming back from one Achilles injury is bad enough, let alone two.

This sucks. For one, DJ is a great player. He’s a huge part of this defense. More than that though, this sucks because no one on this team deserves a Super Bowl ring more than Derrick Johnson does. Him not being apart of a big run really blows.

The only decent news out of this was that D.J. Alexander played just fine in Johnson’s absence. Next man up once again.

Best wishes, DJ. Hope you can heal up and come back and play for us someday.
