Ugly: Turnovers

Give the Chiefs credit, man. Despite doing something they normally don’t do, the Chiefs still reigned victorious in the biggest game they’ve had this season.

That something, by the way, was turning the football over. Kansas City turned it over three times on Thursday night and still somehow won the ball game.

Kansas City was very fortunate that the defense showed up and prevented the Raiders from getting touchdowns on all of those turnovers.

The first came on a muffed punt to Tyreek Hill on what would have been the Chiefs’ first possession. James Cowser recovered the muffed punt and the Raiders got three points they shouldn’t have to start the game off.

Maybe it’s the pessimist in me, but when that turnover happened, I thought the Chiefs could be setting themselves up for a repeat of the Steelers game. Thankfully that didn’t happen, but the turnovers kept comin’.

As I mentioned on the previous slide, Smith threw a horrible interception to Carrie, which led to an Oakland field goal. On the very next possession, Smith lost a fumble after Mack knocked it out of his hand, but it led to no points.

Kansas City was very fortunate that the defense showed up and prevented the Raiders from getting touchdowns on all of those turnovers. Typically, I feel like Oakland capitalizes on those mistakes and could have had an easy 21 points (at least) there.

Instead, they walked away with six. This defense, man.
