Chiefs Top Raider Week Moments No. 4: Raiders Almost Kill Warpaint

October 17, 1975

The Kansas City Chiefs had some down years in the 70s and 80s, but there were still a few moments to be proud of. One of those moments came on October 17, 1975 when the Chiefs put an absolute beatdown on the Raiders. The Chiefs ran up the score 42-10 in one of the few blemishes on a solid season for John Madden’s Raiders.

“We couldn’t beat the Chiefs, but we damn near killed their horse.” ~ Raiders coach John Madden on blowout loss to Chiefs

What made this truly notable though, was that the Chiefs live mascot, Warpaint, would circle the stadium after every score. With the horse running so much, John Madden exclaimed to reporters after the game: “We couldn’t beat the Chiefs, but we damn near killed their horse.”

Beating the Raiders is always good. Frustrating their future Hall of Fame coach just makes it better. Not to mention, Warpaint didn’t die from exhaustion, so all in all it was just a really good day to be a part of Chiefs Kingdom.
