Marcus Peters vs Cooper and Crabtree

There is little doubt about what the Kansas City Chiefs primary concern will be on defense. The Oakland Raiders love to throw the ball. The Chiefs have had issues with a young and worn down secondary. However, Marcus Peters is healthy and should be locking down his side of the field this week.

The combination of Derek Carr and Amari Cooper has been an instant hit for the Raiders. Meanwhile, Michael Crabtree has resurrected his career in Oakland. That has led to a lot of success when the Raiders throw the ball. It is clearly their biggest advantage in this game. The Chiefs will need Marcus Peters to hold his ground on his side of the field to help the rest of the defense.

The Chiefs run a left/right scheme with their corners. That means they leave Marcus Peters on his side of the field instead of having him follow the opponent’s top receiver. That system worked incredibly well last year when Sean Smith was opposite of Peters. It has not held up as well in 2016. However, if Peters can cover his man without help, the Chiefs can adjust their coverage on the other side of the field.
