Overtime: Hot Takes From Around The League

There were some pretty interesting takes this week from Kansas City Chiefs fans.  However, that pales in comparison to some of the things being said about other teams.  In fact, some of these had me almost rolling on the floor laughing.  It’s amazing how far some people will go when it comes to sports.

"GTHOOH!!! Jeff Fisher got a 2-year Contract Extension with the Rams? Seriously! See folks! See why the Rooney Rule is necessary. #Ridiculous!"

Ya know, Stephen A Smith was on a roll with this tweet…right up until he got into the Rooney Rule stuff. For those of you that don’t know, the Rooney Rule makes it mandatory for teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching vacancies. It’s a good rule, even if it is sometimes just a formality. However, I really don’t see any way that it applies here. The case of Jeff Fisher in LA stinks more of nepotism and cronyism than it does of any kind of racism. Off base, Stephen.

This one is truly worthy of its own section…

Ok, so this whole situation is a hot take. Let’s take this from the top:

  • Cam Newton Suspension: Yes, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera simply had enough and wasn’t going to put up with it anymore. So he suspended the reigning MVP…for what would be just one play. It may have been for longer, but that one play was a Derek Anderson interception. The reason for the suspension? Cam Newton didn’t wear a tie.
  • Earl Thomas Retirement: Football is a violent game, and injuries happen. That was the case for star safety Earl Thomas last night. It looked to be a bad injury, and Thomas may be done for the year. However, Thomas tweeted last night that he may be  done for even longer than that as he is contemplating retirement. Woah…that escalated quickly for a star player in his prime.
  • Marshawn Lynch Just Shows Up: Because why the hell not, right? In the midst of all the craziness last night, how could Lynch not just randomly show up on the sidelines? Apparently that is just something he can do, since it was clear none of his former teammates expected him to be there. Whatevs man. Whatevs.

The Kansas City Chiefs are sitting in great position to make a run at playoffs and maybe even the Super Bowl. Riding high on back to back huge wins, the Chiefs should be a bit of a wrecking ball moving forward. Of course, that won’t stop the overreactions from coming. Hey, it’s what fans do!
