KC Chiefs: John Dorsey Has Done Well in Draft After All
2015 NFL DRAFT
In 2015, John Dorsey had a few seasons under his belt as the general manager and was into a groove when it came to drafting, especially in the later rounds.
Peters won Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording eight interceptions and always making plays.
Sure, it’s still early into these guys’ careers, but all but one guy drafted by Kansas City in 2015 are still with the team. The guys taken who are still with the Chiefs were Marcus Peters (first round), Mitch Morse (second round), Chris Conley (third round), Ramik Wilson (fourth round), Steven Nelson (fourth round), DJ Alexander (fifth round), James O’Shaughnessy (fifth round), and Rakeem Nunez-Roches (sixth round).
All but three of those guys started on Sunday against the Broncos, and one only didn’t start because he was hurt. That, my friends, is drafting for depth.
I think we’d all agree that out of Dorsey’s three drafts, this one has been the best.
Peters and Morse made their presence known right away by starting in most games during the 2015 season. Peters won Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording eight interceptions and always making plays. Morse was a steady hand at center and did a great job as a rookie.
Wilson and Nunez-Roches have both been nice surprises on the defensive side, and that’s impressive considering how late they were drafted. Wilson was even cut before the regular season began, but thankfully was brought back.
I think we’d all agree that out of Dorsey’s three drafts, this one has been the best. Sure, it’s still pretty early, but they’ve all made impact plays so far, and that’s impressive.
