Chicago Bears

Some of the best success the Kansas City Chiefs have ever had at quarterback has come in the form of free agents. Len Dawson and Trent Green both hold a place in the hearts of Chiefs fans. That trend could continue if the Chiefs decide to test the free agent market at quarterback. One guy who should be readily available is the Bears Jay Cutler.

Now, calm down, I’m not saying this WILL or even SHOULD happen. However, Cutler will most certainly be a consideration if the Chiefs go quarterback shopping. Of the upcoming free agents, it is most likely that the embattled Bears signal caller will be the most cost effective. Simply put, it’s hard to imagine many teams putting in a big bid on him.

The current contract for Jay Cutler averages out to $18 million per year. I don’t see anyone offering him that kind of a deal once he gets shipped out of Chicago. A $15 – $16 million per year deal seems much more likely, if he can even get that. Either way, the Chiefs would likely structure the deal to give them some room to cut ties in a couple of years.

Though Jay Cutler might make some sense financially, there will certainly be the question of his attitude and mentality. It is hard to see the Chiefs bringing in a guy like that to try and spark the offense. On top of that, Cutler has a horrible penchant for throwing interceptions. That goes against just about everything the Chiefs are preaching these days.
