Kansas City Chiefs: Rumors Circulating About A Change At Quarterback
By Ben Almquist
Tyler Bray
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs had a pretty big decision this preseason regarding the quarterback position. After adding Nick Foles to the roster, there was really only space for one more guy. The Chiefs had to choose between Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray, and Kevin Hogan. The team, to the surprise of many, would choose the only player from that group who wasn’t drafted, Tyler Bray.
The saga of Tyler Bray in Kansas City has been an interesting one. An undrafted free agent (UDFA) in 2013, Bray had a number of character concerns coming out of college. However, he apparently showed the Chiefs something as they have used multiple tricks in order to keep him around. Could it be that the staff sees something they like about Bray?
As far as salary considerations go, Tyler Bray is the single greatest choice the Chiefs could make. Bray is scheduled to be a $1.25 million cap hit in 2017. Any kind of an extension that KC could sign him to would have to be pretty reasonably priced.
However, the real question is whether or not he can do the job. I can’t say that I have seen anything definitive to say he can. His presence on the roster says a lot about what the team thinks. However, so does the fact they went out and got Nick Foles this offseason.
