Kansas City Chiefs: Report Card Vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
By Ben Almquist
It’s about time that Kansas City Chiefs fans started to talk about the status of the kick return unit. What was expected to be a strength for the Chiefs has failed to live up to its standards. On Sunday, the Chiefs return unit averaged just 21 yards per attempt with a long of 22 yards. That’s no fluke either as it matches the season numbers of 21.4 per return.
The Chiefs return unit currently ranks 19th in the NFL in yards per return. With the 25 yard line being the new starting position for a touchback, this is pretty frustrating. The Chiefs have a season long return of just 33 yards. That is tied for 25th in the NFL.
With proven return man options in Knile Davis, DeAnthony Thomas, and Tyreek Hill, this is clearly an issue of the unit as a whole. There is something that Dave Toub has not been able to adjust to. Clearly many other teams have been able to figure it out. This unit needs to right the ship, and do so quickly.
