Kansas City Chiefs: Fresh Hot Takes From Sunday Vs Buccaneers
By Ben Almquist
Second Down: Time To Bench Alex Smith!
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw a terrible interception in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Smith clearly was going for a timing route on a predetermined throw. It didn’t work out. Instead of dropping back in the endzone, safety Chris Conte read the play and broke on the pass. He would take it all the way out to the 48 yard line.
There are few players in the NFL with less leeway from the fanbase than Alex Smith. There is a ready for action group of fans that can’t wait to see the Chiefs quarterback gone. This was just red meat for them. Nevermind the fact that the defense gave up a touchdown on the subsequent drive, or that Smith retaliated with another touchdown. Nope, for some fans, the game was all about this.

"Alex Smith sucks. Go get Romo."
Look, if you want to blame Alex Smith, go right ahead. I already said that was a terrible interception. However, the notion that this means he needs to go is pretty ridiculous. Look at the Chiefs record with Smith. Hardly a big reason for major changes. Also, this notion of getting Tony Romo…that needs to die a horrible death. Romo is old and a health risk. Not to mention he’s notorious for poorly timed interceptions. How is that better in any way at all?
