Kansas City Chiefs: Top Ten Draft Targets For 2017 v. 2
By Ben Almquist
Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 3
Mitch Trubisky – QB – North Carolina
If the Kansas City Chiefs are intent on getting their quarterback of the future, then I believe they must be willing to trade up. As far as I can see in this draft class, the only quarterback worth trading up for is UNC’s Mitch Trubisky. The future of the franchise is worth a big investment. So is Mitch Trubisky.
Mitch Trubisky is a big guy at 6-3, 220 lbs. That prototypical frame is just part of his appeal. The big armed junior has also shown to be adept as a passer. Trubisky currently has a 71% completion percentage while averaging over 330 yards per game. He also has 18 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions. The accuracy, arm strength, and decision making are all there.
The questions on Mitch Trubisky will largely center around his experience. As a first year starter, there isn’t a whole lot known about him. With college football today going away from quarterbacks having to be football smart, there will be some angst about a complete unknown. Trubisky does have some inconsistent footwork…but if you can’t tell, I’m really reaching for negatives here.
If the Kansas City Chiefs are ready to go get their quarterback of the future, I am all for it being Mitch Trubisky. Make no mistake, if the Chiefs want Trubisky, they are going to have to move up for him. That is likely to come with a pretty high price tag. So John Dorsey will have to be 100% sure on this.
