Kansas City Chiefs: Top Ten Draft Targets For 2017 v. 2
By Ben Almquist
Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 7
Corey Davis – WR – Western Michigan
The Kansas City Chiefs have shown they don’t fear the “big fish in a little pond” stigma when it comes to drafting. That puts Western Michigan receiver Corey Davis right in their wheelhouse. Davis has emerged as one of the best wide receivers in college football, and is garnering a lot of attention from draft scouts.
Corey Davis brings all of the physical tools to the table. He has a solid, athletic, frame with good height and length. A quality athlete who moves comfortably. Shows next level understanding of the wide receiver position. Davis is able to line up at any wide receiver position and run a full route tree from each spot.
While possessing all of the natural gifts for the position, Corey Davis has not yet shown the ability to utilize them to their potential. Davis doesn’t seem to trust his speed off the line, instead trying to put a move on the defensive back before running. He also doesn’t high point the ball well, despite a tall frame and good leaping ability. Will need to get more physical at the NFL level.
The Kansas City Chiefs will certainly like a lot of what they see in Corey Davis. He has the physical ability to exploit match ups and make big plays in open space. Davis has some developing to do, but the Chiefs have one of the best wide receiver coaches in the NFL. This should be a great pairing of player and situation.
